Blogariddims 19 / Bounce me back to 98

Blogariddims favourite John Eden takes the mantle once again for episode 19 of the cast, bouncing us back to a years worth of music that I have a particular attachment to. '98 was when I started to seriously get into dancehall - I'd hoover up every 7" that came into Dublin (not many), mix the fuck out of them and play them out whenever I had the chance. As a result Ive got a nostalgic/intimate connection with a lot of these tunes and hearing a selection like this is a journey into reminiscence for me...
....So here is my tribute to that year. I’d love to be all cool and say that I bought all these on the day they came out, but the truth of the matter is my buying patterns have been somewhat erratic. Quite of bit of “back filling” has been required to get this tracklist together, which has involved me at my most nerdy. After taking the piss out of trainspotters with their spreadsheets and matrix numbers, I found myself getting deep into excel after realising that greensleeves alone released over a hundred seven inches in 98, most with exactly the same stock labels....
Feel the clammy (and somewhat feeble) grip of the nerd hordes on your mind Eden - you are now one of us!

Ha - kind of a random crossover from a comment on another post there. I was thinking about giving him some of our ambient stuff, but Im afraid he might sue us!

Terry wouldn't mind, he would be interested in what you are doing. He had a very early tape loop of a motown soul track Your No Good which is amazing. It was available from WPS1 art radio called Venice Biennale 2005. Not sure if it is still there,

But you should check this stuff out,Sampling and very advanced manipulation of sounds before samplers were invented.
Other pieces are Music from the Gift and Bird of Paradise. Kieran Hebden( four tet) included some of the above on his Late Night compiliation

Thanks John. I downloaded 'Your no Good' last year from a friends blog and was wondering what the story was behind it.

I might bring some CDs down then - I usually like to stay under the radar when it comes to putting up mixes featuring the work of legends like Mr. Reilly as I heard worrying things about La Monte Young's estate threatening action against a few sites offering downloads.

Cheers for those reccomendations as well. Have you seen this btw? http://www.elisionfields.com/

Picked it up recently - its a very nice recording...

I didn't know that about La Monte Young, I'm sure Terry would be different, I got some of the elision fields re-releases dorian reeds and poppynogood. They are releasing the old organ of corti stuff.
Have you heard Pauline Oliveros Deep Listening etc
That is weird about La Monte, I thought he would have been up for that.

There is also some good stuff, not just Riley on melodridion( i think that is the spelling)
